Our orchard

There was nothing planted in 2018

We started to develop a non-typical planting plan using permaculture plant guilds:

  • Free forms
  • Species diversity
  • Mutual aid between species
  • Support for pollinators

    • 13 fruit trees planted (cherry, apple, pear, peach and plum)
    • 300 vines of old variety Héritage raspberries in 9 cm pots are planted as hedges in two places on the land to border the market gardening areas.
    • 1,200 m2 of market gardens have been set up using straw and compost planting techniques
    • 20 Franquette walnut trees on 2-year-old scions are planted at the left end of the plot because the tannin in walnut trees is too strong for vegetable crops.
    • Guild planting trials on berries (goji, feijoa, blackcurrants, pomegranates, myrtillus)
    • 4 guilds are planted with a total of 80 scions between 1 and 2 years old.
    • 2500 m2 of vegetable crops between the guilds are planted on a bed of vegetable compost and without tillage
    • We have planted more than 500 raspberry bushes since the planting.
    • 5000 m2 of vegetable crops are grown on a bed of vegetable compost without tillage
    • The arrival of Khaki Campbell ducks on the farm marked the start of a close relationship between us and the animals. The ducks are excellent slug hunters between our vegetables.
    • Arrival of 5 Poitou geese to protect all the ducks
    • Arrival of other breeds of ducks Duclair, Coureurs indiens, Huppé joining the Khakis Campbell
    • Given the success of the new guilds in 2020, we are introducing more guilds between vegetable crops. 80 trees and shrubs are being planted.
    • Fruit trees planted this year: fig, nashi, persimmon, currant, table grape, kiwi and kiwai, quince
    • We also plant trees for ornamental purposes and to promote biodiversity: willow, albizia, dogwood, chalef, vinegar tree, honeysuckle, etc.
    • We are also developing a range of aromatic plants and edible flowers.
    • Arrival of laying hens from Gascony: 25 ready-to-lay hens bought locally, 20 km from the farm.
    • Opening of 6 camping pitches for tents, motorhomes and caravans
    • Opening of sanitary facilities: solar shower, compost toilet and sink for the campsite
    • Sunday evening farm dinners

Given the difficult economic climate for vegetable sales, we are putting the farm's activities on hold and taking the opportunity to prepare our 2025 project.

    • Launch of solutions to offset greenhouse gas emissions
